Although the halibut didn’t want to cooperate for us today everyone had great patience and a great attitude which made the trip so enjoyable. Doug picked up the knack of jigging and brought in a couple of nice fish followed by Jeff landing the big one of the day, a nice 92 pounder. Dan hung in there and eventually landed a few. Heidi and Bob were most enjoyable and really appreciated being on the water. Heidi got the hang of running the jig and landed a couple. As an end to day we were lucky enough to see some whales on the way home and everyone got some great pictures.

M/V Pursuit with Capt. Steve

We fished hard today and threw all the tricks at 'em. I can say that we seriously fooled the lingcod as we had to release about 20 of them. The halibut were a little more wary. The bite was slow but steady and we hauled in 4 in the 60-70 pound range and a 50 pounder. Later in the day we filled up on chickens. On the way home the crew was treated to a great show from a breaching humpback whale and we found a black bear peering over the cliffs of Cape Resurrection.

Woody accidently deleted my report for the 4th so I'm putting the picture back up at least... Something new that you will be seeing here is reports posted by Kevin and Woody along with my reports. Each of us will post a report from our day of fishing. That way our posts here will be unique instead of me trying to put words to Woody or Kevin's day of fishing... I think it will add new perspective to our report blog and everybody will get to see their photos and a report by the captain that they fished with....

Profish with Capt. Woody
|
The weather started out a bit foggy today as Gail and the grandkids headed out for a great day of catching! The kids got on the board first with fish while Gail watched and waited. She was finally able to hook up on some fish while the kids continued to shine. Kyla and Jasper fought over the same fish because it took both hooks. Uncle Jerry, Gary, Larry or whatever his name was, kept us all on our toes with his great humor and fishing skill. In the end our foggy start turned out clear and bountiful.

Kevin and Woody teamed up on the Pursuit today and headed out for a beautiful day on the water. While the fish were smaller than yesterday the end result was limits of good eating fish for everybody...

M/V ProFish with Capt. Woody
|
Woody's BACK, and in the game again.... He headed out today with the crew on the ProFish with a chip on his shoulder from a long off-season. They landed some nice fish including one that tipped the scales at 160 pounds (by Henry Mitchell) to grab the top spot on the leader board for the Seward Halibut Derby that started today and snatch the largest fish for us this season. I can't think of a better way to say "I'm HOome" than that. The gang also hauled in 3 other fish in the 100 pound range and after everyone had a freezer full of meat finished out the limit with a few chickens...

Nick and Jolene with her 109 pounder
|
Kevin headed out on the ProFish today - Nick and I were on the Pursuit. We were joined by our friend and reforming charterboat captain BIG Paul, Nick's brother-in-law, and a crew of fishermen/women from Bristol Bay. Most of them were getting ready to head out to "the bay" for another season of salmon fishing and hopefully their good luck will follow them. Big Paul quickly got down to business and caught a limit of a couple 50 pounders in the first 15 minutes. JP broke our season record with a beautiful 134 pound fish. Jolene wasn't far behind with a 109, Rorey hauled in a 103 and we had a few more in the 80-90 pound range to round out a great day. (Unfortunately, my camera died when we hit the dock so I don't have a pix of either boat's load of fish until someone sends one)... Please...
On the ProFish, the action was a bit slower but they hauled in a couple fish in the 60 pound range and a load of chickens. The weather is supposed to be good for the next several days so we'll be looking forward to some more good fishing....

Kevin was out again today and even though some rough weather cut the day slightly short they brought home some good fish. The largest fish of the day was in the 75 pound range....
