2014 Season Wrap-up

We would like to give a huge thanks to everyone who fished with us this past season. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing everyone who fishes with us each year and having the opportunity to meet many new clients as well. Fishing this season was very good with a record silver run and halibut fishing which was solid all season.
We saw some big halibut – the biggest being a 271 pounder caught Aug. 31st. – and a lot of solid mid-size (30 – 60 lb.) halibut as well. This being the first season under a new regulation allowing retention of 1 halibut any size and one 29” or under we focused our efforts on trying to catch the best “any size” fish we could, mopping up the little ones later if need be. This worked well most days with solid average on the boats.
After a beautiful spring we endured a long stretch of rough, rainy weather in August that prevented us from leaving the bay for days at a time. Fortunately, that bad weather period was met with a run of silvers into the bay that was one of the biggest I can remember. Day after day we limited out on feisty silvers in the outer reaches of Resurrection Bay and even found a few smaller halibut on the bottom just below them.
We are already making plans for the 2015 season including the replacement of our namesake vessel ProFish-n-Sea with a newer version of the same well proven design from Bay Welding in Homer! We will keep you posted with updates as construction continues. The calendars for July and August are already filling up so book now to grab the few remaining days….
